The Renfrew Center eating disorder clinic specializes in the treatment of eating disorders (anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating) as well as trauma, anxiety, depression, and other women's issues.

The Country's First Residential Eating Disorder Clinic

The Renfrew Center of Philadelphia opened in June 1985 as the country's first residential eating disorder clinic. From the beginning, our eating disorder clinic has addressed both underlying issues and behavioral change, and today we offer traditional eating disorder clinic treatment as well as family therapy and art and movement therapy.

In 1990, Renfrew opened a second eating disorder clinic in Coconut Creek, South Florida. In the same year, we started to develop our nationwide referral network of eating disorder specialists who share our philosophy and approach. More recently, we have opened outpatient eating disorder clinics in several locations which continue our tradition of innovation in clinical services. We now offer the full continuum of care—outpatient, extended care, intensive outpatient, day treatment, transitional living and residential treatment.

Individualized Eating Disorder Programs

The Renfrew Center eating disorder clinic takes a comprehensive approach to mental health issues, and our experienced staff members specialize in the psychology of women. Our clinic programs respect each woman's individuality and encourage women to participate actively in their own growth and recovery. Our eating disorder clinic is designed to be collaborative rather than imposed, interactive rather than passive, and personal rather than distant or neutral. Our innovative programs emphasize the value and healing potential of healthy interpersonal relationships.

The Renfrew Center eating disorder clinic offers a comprehensive range of services so that clinic treatment can be tailored to meet individual needs. After an assessment, eating disorder treatment goals and plans are developed in collaboration with the client and her referring therapist if applicable. Our goal is to provide the appropriate level of treatment based on each woman's situation and to facilitate timely transitions to less intensive levels of care. Our clinic services are covered by most insurance policies.
