I'm Still Afraid of Getting Fat

Question:

Hello, I'm 15 and was recently discharged from Philadelphia Renfrew and I am having such a hard time with wanting to eat. I'm still so afraid of becoiming fat and my mom is disappointed because I've "given up" but its not that; its just I'm petrified of becoming fat. How do I get over this fear of beoming fat without becoming anorexic again. Its so hard. Please help.

Answer:

You are not alone in finding it difficult to make the transition from residential treatment to life at home. Your struggle with eating disordered thinking and behavior is likely to take much time and effort. Most people experience setbacks and disappointments on the journey to recovery. My advice is to focus on your aftercare plan to help you at this very sensitive time. Work with your treatment team at home, your therapist(s), nutritionist and physician and participate in group and family therapy if possible.
