Can't Picture Eating

Question:

Now it is like I never eat. I am never hungry or anything anymore and if I eat I know I will gain it all back plus more. I am 5'3 and 105 steady dropping. I think I am fine and I'm not sick. But everyone is getting on me and telling me to eat

I can't picture myself eating I hate the idea of eating. I am so scared of becoming fat that i am willing to die before getting fat. If you have any advice tell me.

Thanks!

Answer:

It sounds like you are really scared and that your fears are focused on the idea of becoming fat. You need and deserve to have the energy and health your body can give you, but you seem to have fallen under the spell of Anorexia, which makes nourishing your body seem alien and dangerous.

All bodies need fuel to live and function. When a person goes without eating, as you have been doing, the body adapts, to keep you alive as long as possible. These adaptations include slowing down the metabolic rate, consuming muscle mass and organ tissue and drawing calcium from bones.

While people who care about you are expressing concern about your behavior, you cannot imagine changing. Working with a professional who is experienced with these issues can be very helpful. My advice is to see a physician to discuss your present medical condition and see a psychotherapist to help you better understand why you are so frightened. (Check with The Renfrew Center or Treatment Locator for therapists in your area).

I hope you follow these suggestions and that you begin to take care of yourself.
