in the treatment of eating disorders (anorexia,
bulimia,
and binge
eating disorder), trauma, anxiety, depression, and other women's
issues.
A Brief History
The Renfrew Center of Philadelphia opened in June 1985 as the country's
first residential facility for the treatment of women with eating
disorders. From the beginning, Renfrew has addressed both underlying
issues and behavioral change, and today we offer family therapy
and art and movement therapy as well as traditional psychotherapies,
psychiatry, and nutrition counseling.
In 1990, Renfrew opened a second residential facility in Coconut
Creek, South Florida. In the same year, we started to develop our
nationwide network of psychotherapists and nutritionists who share
our philosophy and approach. More recently, we have opened outpatient
Renfrew Centers in several locations which continue our tradition
of innovation in clinical services. We now offer the full continuum
of careresidential treatment, transitional living, extended care, day treatment, intensive outpatient, and outpatient. In addition to specializing in eating disorders and
women's issues, our staff possesses expertise in a wide range of
associated problems including trauma, anxiety, and depression.
Individualized Treatment Programs
The Renfrew Center has a comprehensive approach to mental health
issues, and our experienced staff members specialize in the psychology
of women. We recognize the many biological, social, and cultural
contexts of women's lives and their impact on a woman's well-being.
Our treatment programs respect each woman's individuality and encourage
women to participate actively in their own growth and recovery.
Treatment is designed to be collaborative rather than imposed, interactive
rather than passive, and personal rather than distant or neutral.
Our innovative programs emphasize the value and healing potential
of healthy interpersonal relationships.
The Renfrew Center offers a comprehensive
range of services so that treatment can be tailored to meet
individual needs. After an assessment, treatment goals and plans
are developed in collaboration with the client and her referring
therapist if applicable. Our goal is to provide the appropriate
level of treatment based on each woman's situation and to facilitate
timely transitions to less intensive levels of care. We will be
happy to verify your insurance benefits to determine how your coverage
applies to Renfrew services.
