Our Philosophy
The Renfrew Center Philosophy
The Renfrew Center offers a comprehensive, individualized approach
to the treatment of eating disorders and related mental health problems.
All treatment programs at Renfrew are guided by our conviction that
every woman has the right to be understood and respected as a unique
person, with her own particular combination of strengths and weaknesses.
Treatment is also influenced by our belief that eating disorders
frequently are shaped and intensified by contemporary cultural messages
that emphasize the virtues of thinness and dieting, objectify the
female body, and create confusion about a woman's identity and role
in our world.
All of our staff members share an expertise in the psychology of
women. They are particularly sensitive to the biological, social,
and cultural contexts of women's lives and are dedicated to restoring
a sense of meaningful well-being in every Renfrew client.
Renfrew's
Eating Disorder Treatment Programs encourage women to participate
actively in their own recoveries. Treatment is designed to be collaborative
rather than imposed, interactive rather than passive, and personal
rather than distant or neutral. Our innovative programs emphasize
the value and healing potential of interpersonal connections.
The Renfrew Center is a women's
mental health facility with locations in Philadelphia
and Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania;
Coconut Creek, FL (near
Boca Raton);

New Jersey; and Southern Connecticut.
We specialize in the treatment of eating disorders (anorexia, bulimia,
and compulsive overeating), abuse, trauma, anxiety, depression,
and related women's mental health issues. We are a preferred provider
for more than 65 insurance companies, HMOs, and other health plans
nationwide. Most services are covered by these plans.
Renfrew maintains a nationwide database of therapists and nutritionists
who share our philosophy and approach to treatment. To receive information
